Background:My name is Owen Lillywhite. In March of 2010 I was searching the internet for videos relating to the Rubik's Cube®. I came across the video:
Make a Rubik's Cube Out of Dice, by MakeMagazine, featuring Bre Pettis and Action Girl. It was really well done and very entertaining. They also credit
gfixler and
burzvingion, whose links I also used to learn how to make these magnetic dice cubes. I thought it would be a fun project, and I was right. I've now sold hundreds of cubes
all over the world.
Pricing:Unfortunately, neodymium magnets have skyrocketed in price recently. Each cube requires 27 dice and 108 magnets. If you were to individually buy the dice and magnets, you could easily spend $70, assuming you already have a drill press. Because I am purchasing in bulk, and doing this for fun, not profit, I am able to sell the
kits for much cheaper than that. I also enjoy making the
cubes, so I sell those also. They take quite a bit of time to make, which is why they are much more expensive than the kits. Here are the links to the magnets, if you would like to buy them straight from the supplier:
Large Magnets (need 12) Small Magnets (need 96)
Personal:I'm really into running. I'm training for my first marathon in the fall. Check out these
tools I've developed for creating pace charts and maps of select races. I'm also really into personal finance. I can't recommend highly enough the following links, they changed my life (and my family tree):
